MUSA

The Museum of the City of Alicante (Museo de la Ciudad de Alicante, MUSA), located in the Santa Barbara Castle, immerses you in the history of the city through its five rooms. The Engineers Corps Building converted into the Visitor Information Center, houses archaeological remains and an audiovisual presentation about the history of Alicante. The Old Hospital exhibits the show “Alicante Crossed by the Mediterranean”, while in the Long Room the exhibition “Stories and People” allows you to see the old medieval gate of the fortress. The Caves of the English present “The Mine Explosion” during the War of Succession, and the old dungeons under the Plaza de Armas, accessible only with a guide, add a touch of mystery to the experience. It is a unique tour that connects the past with the present of the city in an incomparable historical setting.

How to get there

Shuttle buses from Plaza Puerta del Mar
Elevators at Avenida Juan Bautista Lafora, in front of the Postiguet Beach
Access by Calle Vazquez de Mella for vehicles and urban itineraries.
Parking on the grounds of Santa Barbara Castle is not permitted.
Pedestrian access along urban routes is recommended.

General, 2.70 euros.
Free for retired pensioners who can prove this condition by means of a document.

Access through La Ereta Park

This itinerary begins with a walk through the streets of the Old Town, leading to La Ereta Park. From there, you can enjoy spectacular views of the city, nearby towns, and the Mediterranean Sea.

Access through Monte Benacantil

Visitors are encouraged to ascend the fortress, enjoying views of Postiguet Beach from Calle Virgen del Socorro. The route includes a path along the western slope of Monte Benacantil, offering breathtaking views of northern Alicante and the surrounding mountains.

Vehicle access

Only in the following cases:

Loading and unloading of passengers for the time strictly necessary: cabs, VTC, people with reduced mobility, and minibusses (length 8.50m and mass 6,800kg).
Visitors must follow the instructions of the municipal staff at all times.
Authorized coaches accessing the castle must be no longer than 8.50 meters and weigh no more than 6,800 kilograms. Drivers must follow all instructions and guidelines provided by local police officers.
This authorization is limited to passenger drop-off and pick-up only. After drop-off, the coach must leave the castle and return later for passenger pick-up.
