CHRISTMAS IN ALICANTE
Christmas in Alicante is a magical celebration full of tradition. The city lights up with festive spirit around December 6th, when the Festival of San Nicolas, patron saint of Alicante, begins. One of the main attractions is the majestic Monumental Nativity Scene, recognized in the Guinness Book of Records, and the charming Santa’s House, where the little ones enjoy unforgettable moments. The ice skating rink in the Bullring and the Christmas Fair add fun for all ages. Sports enthusiasts are not left out, with the traditional San Silvestre Solidarity Race to bid farewell to the year in a festive manner. Christmas in Alicante culminates with the eagerly awaited arrival of the Three Kings, who put the finishing touch to the most heartwarming time of the year with the Parade on January 5th that runs through the streets of the city downtown.
Celebration of San Nicolas
On December 6th, Alicante celebrates the festivity of its patron saint, San Nicolas. The day includes a mass at the Co-Cathedral of San Nicolas, followed by a solemn procession that culminates with the City’s Vow to the patron. Additionally, the day concludes with a spectacular Moors and Christians Parade in his honor, which travels through the city center streets, ending at Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Program: coming soon
The Monumental Nativity Scene
Since 2019, Alicante’s Monumental Nativity Scene has been listed in the Guinness World Records. Featuring life-sized figures of the Virgin Mary, Baby Jesus, Saint Joseph, and the Three Kings, this breathtaking display is one of the city’s main Christmas attractions. Complemented by magnificent angels scattered across the city, it creates a unique itinerary that can be enjoyed from mid-December until January 6th. Location: coming soon
Municipal Nativity Scene and Nativity Scenes
Alicante is renowned for its exquisite nativity scenes, showcasing local craftsmanship and devotion. The Municipal Nativity Scene, located in the Town Hall and created by the Alicante Nativity Scene Association, is a must-see. Other highlights include the Nativity Scene at Plaza de la Montañeta, crafted by master artisans, and the one at “El Portalet” Palace, made in collaboration with the Brotherhoods and Confraternities Association. Santa Claus’s House
For the little ones (and not so little ones), the Santa Claus’s House is another magical spot of Christmas in Alicante. It opens its doors on December 1st and remains accessible until the 24th. In this charming corner, children can learn about the story of the also known as Saint Nicholas, and leave their Christmas wishes. Christmas Sports Activities
Christmas in Alicante is also an excellent opportunity to enjoy sports in a festive atmosphere. The most active can participate in events such as “Navi-Voley”, which kicks off a series of Christmas competitions. One of the most anticipated moments is the Christmas Swimming Crossing. The classic Solidarity San Silvestre Race, a fun and colorful race through the heart of the city for charitable purposes, gathers runners in costumes to bid farewell to the year with joy. New Year’s Eve in Alicante
New Year’s Eve in Alicante offers a perfect combination of tradition and celebration. As midnight approaches, the Plaza del Ayuntamiento fills with people who await the chimes to eat the 12 lucky grapes to the rhythm of the music. The party continues with performances and fireworks. The city invites you to continue the celebration in bars and nightclubs, where the new year begins with fun and enthusiasm.
Children’s New Year’s Eve
The Children’s New Year’s Eve in Alicante is a celebration specially designed for the little ones to enjoy the magic of saying goodbye to the year. The Plaza del Ayuntamiento transforms into a space full of joy during the midday of December 31st, with activities and music for children. With their own chimes, children can take their lucky grapes (or sweets) and experience the excitement of the countdown in a safe and family-friendly environment.
