Exhibition „Sube“ at Las Cigarreras

„Sube“ is a sculptural installation curated by the Vista Oral collective -formed by Alicia Escobio and Maite Muñoz- that explores the Valencian Route, or ‚Ruta del bakalao‘.

The sculptural installation is based on research by the Vista Oral collective, born from a fascination with a cultural phenomenon that was as exceptional as it was stigmatized: the Valencian Route. It takes as its starting point the collection of the Museo del Remember by Rubén Hernández and Susana Oliva’s photographic archive to explore the memory of La Ruta from the present day.

The images appear enlarged, distorted, cropped, stepped on, danced to or redrawn. Objects leave the display case to become architecture. Documents cease to illustrate a past and begin to create new relationships between them. Everything seems to preserve something of its origin and, at the same time, transform into something else.
