The Provincial Archaeological Museum of Alicante (Museo Arqueologico Provincial de Alicante) is an innovative museum that redefines the traditional concept of archaeology. Aiming to become the first archaeological museum of the 21st century, the MARQ offers visitors a unique and educational experience. It combines historical accuracy with modern, interactive exhibits that make exploring the past engaging and accessible. Its spacious galleries connect local heritage with a global context, attracting both experts and the general public. The permanent exhibitions at MARQ cover Prehistory, Iberian culture, Roman culture, the Middle Ages, and the Modern and Contemporary Ages, showcasing exceptional and valuable archaeological pieces. The thematic rooms feature internationally significant exhibitions that stand out for their relevance and appeal. How to get there
  • Shuttle buses from Plaza Puerta del Mar
  • Elevators at Avenida Juan Bautista Lafora, in front of the Postiguet Beach
  • Access by Calle Vazquez de Mella for vehicles and urban itineraries.
  • Parking on the grounds of Santa Barbara Castle is not permitted.
  • Pedestrian access along urban routes is recommended.

Price of the lifts:
General, 2.70 euros.
Free for retired pensioners who can prove this condition by means of a document.

This itinerary begins with a walk through the streets of the Old Town, leading to La Ereta Park. From there, you can enjoy spectacular views of the city, nearby towns, and the Mediterranean Sea.
 
Visitors are encouraged to ascend the fortress, enjoying views of Postiguet Beach from Calle Virgen del Socorro. The route includes a path along the western slope of Monte Benacantil, offering breathtaking views of northern Alicante and the surrounding mountains.
 

Only in the following cases:

  • Loading and unloading of passengers for the time strictly necessary: cabs, VTC, people with reduced mobility, and minibusses (length 8.50m and mass 6,800kg).
  • Visitors must follow the instructions of the municipal staff at all times.
  • Authorized coaches accessing the castle must be no longer than 8.50 meters and weigh no more than 6,800 kilograms. Drivers must follow all instructions and guidelines provided by local police officers.
  • This authorization is limited to passenger drop-off and pick-up only. After drop-off, the coach must leave the castle and return later for passenger pick-up.
