The mission of the Alicante Water Museum (Museo de Aguas de Alicante) is to promote awareness, respect, and the importance of water in everyday life. This dynamic space continuously updates its content to provide enriching experiences for its visitors. Renowned for its extensive educational and informative offerings, the museum places water as its central theme. On the ground floor, visitors can explore the history of water through the different settlements and cultures that have inhabited the city over time, as well as the evolution of water collection and distribution techniques. The first floor invites visitors to enjoy an interactive and educational experience with water, where games and new technologies help explain the integrated water cycle and how water reaches our homes. The second floor showcases the main projects of Aguas de Alicante and actions promoting sustainable development, reflecting the city’s commitment to managing this vital resource responsibly.
The museum is housed in a newly constructed building located next to the Pozos de Garrigos.
The Pozos de Garrigos: A Climate Refuge in the Heart of the Alicante Water Museum
The Pozos de Garrigos, a fascinating system of cisterns carved in the 19th century, are among the museum’s most remarkable features. In an era where climate change demands creative solutions, this space serves as a model for urban adaptation and resilience. It is the first public climate refuge in the city, offering a haven for visitors during increasingly frequent heatwaves in the Mediterranean region. A Unique Space Located within “Pozo 1,” this refuge maintains a constant temperature year-round and offers access to water, electricity, internet connectivity, and vegetation adapted to the space. This initiative is part of the 2022-2027 Aguas de Alicante Strategic Plan, aimed at addressing climate change and promoting sustainability in the city.
