Temporary Exhibition: “Colour in Art (Coloramas)” at the MACA

The Alicante Museum of Contemporary Art (MACA) presents its major cultural event for this summer:

Colour in Art (Coloramas). A vibrant exhibition that brings together, for the first time, works from all the museum’s collections (both owned and on loan) to explore 75 years of artistic creation (1949–2025) through the central role played by colour.

Organised in collaboration with the Juan March Foundation, this exhibition is an educational, engaging and highly visual experience, ideal both for art enthusiasts and for those wishing to discover the secrets of the creative process and the evolution of abstract art.

Exhibition spaces and itinerary

The exhibition is designed to delve into the world of colour, its artistic significance and its scientific explanation as an electromagnetic wave through the following spaces:

  • The Main Gallery: It displays the work of a number of contemporary artists for whom colour is the essential principle of composition, existing through its own presence.
  • Cabinet of Curiosities: A small space just before entering the main hall, where visitors can discover the origins of colour through minerals, dye plants, pigments, natural dyes, industrial samples and historical documents. It features the collaboration of the Royal Tapestry Factory of Santa Bárbara in Madrid and the collector Ana Roquero.
  • Coloramas: A visually separate space reminiscent of old slide shows, camera obscuras or zoetropes. It features an audiovisual narrative that tells the story of colour, exploring it as a physical phenomenon, a perceptual construct and a symbolic language.
  • Educational Space “Chromatic Threshold”: An area for reflection and play where visitors can experiment with mixing colours using subtractive or additive systems.
