  • Date: Wednesday, 12th August 2026

  • Event Schedule: 19:30 – 21:00 CEST

The Astronomical Event of the Year from the Alicante Coast

On 12th August 2026, Alicante will offer a prime viewpoint to witness one of the most breathtaking astronomical spectacles of the decade: an almost total solar eclipse at sunset.

Although the path of totality crosses a strip of northern and central Spain, in Alicante we will experience an impressive 99.14% obscuration of the solar disc just before sunset.

Partial Eclipse Begins
19:40:03 CEST

First contact as the Moon begins to cross the solar disc.

Maximum Eclipse (99.14% Coverage)
20:34:08 CEST

Peak obscuration. The Sun will be low on the horizon at an altitude of 3.8° (Azimuth 285.9°).

Sunset
20:59:06 CEST

The eclipsed Sun sets below the horizon.

Eclipse Ends (Below Horizon)
21:25:08 CEST

Final contact occurs out of view after sunset. Total duration: 1 hour 45 minutes.

Viewing Guidelines & Eye Safety

  • Mandatory Eye Protection: Never look directly at the Sun without certified solar eclipse glasses (ISO 12312-2) or proper solar filters for cameras and telescopes. Regular sunglasses do not provide protection.

  • Plan Ahead: Popular vantage points are expected to be busy, so arriving well in advance is highly recommended.
