Poquet highlights “Alicante’s warm welcome as an example of a modern, sustainable Mediterranean city, with excellent air links and ready to host events offering unique experiences”

Alicante, 5 June 2026. The Alicante City&Beach Tourist Board, through the Alicante Convention Bureau (ACB), has carried out a specific initiative to attract tourism related to conferences, meetings, events and incentive travel (MICE) in Amsterdam. The event was attended by an exclusive group of agencies and tour operators specialising in this sector, and featured the participation of five hotels from Alicante.

The event took place in the former customs house in the Dutch capital, a historic venue chosen to highlight Amsterdam’s cultural ties with Spain and Alicante, and because the city’s cultural scene is a highly valued attraction for agencies.

The Councillor for Tourism, Ana Poquet, highlighted “the positive reception of Alicante as an example of a modern, sustainable Mediterranean city, with excellent air links and ready to host events offering unique experiences”. She also highlighted “the involvement of the city’s hotels in the conference and events tourism strategy. We work with them jointly on the promotion and marketing strategy for our destination, and that is fundamental”, added the councillor.

” “Alicante, where MICE meets the Mediterranean” took the form of a workshop, that is, a series of small meetings in which Alicante’s hotels and the Tourist Board’s experts were able to explain the city’s offering to professionals from the Netherlands in greater detail and in line with their interests, following the presentation of the city as a destination given by Poquet. In addition, the cultural attaché from the Spanish Embassy in Amsterdam, Joaquín Durán, was also in attendance, as were representatives from the Dutch media.

The Alicante hotels taking part in this promotional campaign were the Hotel Hospes Amérigo, Meliá Alicante, Hotel Almirante, Alicante Golf and the Hotel Innside Alicante by Meliá.

The Netherlands is an important market for Alicante and ranks ninth in terms of the number of tourists staying in hotels and apartment blocks, according to data from the Provincial Association of Hotels and Apartments of Alicante (APHA). In fact, 2,411 flights with over 434,000 seats connecting with the Netherlands are scheduled for this summer with EasyJet, KLM, Vueling, Transavia and Ryanair

“For this reason, and following a request from ACB members who were interested in the Netherlands as a source market, we felt it was a good time to promote MICE tourism and open up new business avenues that generate wealth for our city,” said Poquet.
