How the I Elche–Alicante International Marathon on Sunday 30 November will affect traffic and mobility in the city

The Alicante City Council has scheduled traffic restrictions across around 40 streets and plazas, as well as changes to bus routes, during the passage of the race through the city centre and the coastal front

Alicante will implement a special traffic operation this Sunday, 30 November, for the I Elche–Alicante International Marathon, which will bring more than 4,400 runners to the city. The athletes are expected to enter Alicante from 10:30 am, with the finish at the Zona Volvo del Puerto estimated around 2:30 pm. Throughout the morning, approximately 40 streets and squares in the city centre and along the coast will be affected by road closures, restricted access and parking prohibitions.

🚧 Main Streets Affected

The urban course covers a wide area of the city centre and seafront. Streets and avenues that will be intermittently closed to traffic include:

  • Avenida de Elche

  • Plaza Arquitecto Miguel López

  • Avenida Loring

  • Eusebio Sempere (against the normal traffic flow)

  • Catedrático Soler and Lorenzo Carbonell

  • Avenida de Aguilera and Plaza de la Estrella

  • Maisonnave, Federico Soto and Avenida de la Estación

  • Plaza de Los Luceros

  • Avenida Alfonso el Sabio

  • Tomás López Torregrosa and Rambla Méndez Núñez

  • Gerona, Plaza Calvo Sotelo and Reyes Católicos

  • Pintor Aparicio and Ramón y Cajal

  • Explanada, Rafael Altamira and Ayuntamiento

  • Gravina, Cervantes and Paseo de los Mártires

  • Perfecto Palacio de la Fuente, Almirante Julio Guillén Tato

  • Paseo de Gómiz, Puerto and Zona Volvo

The Local Police will regulate access and establish roadblocks as the race progresses. In many sections, driving and parking will be prohibited from early morning.

🚌 Public Transport Impact: Changes to Over 20 Lines

During the Sunday morning, numerous urban and interurban bus lines will be rerouted, including:

  • 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, 12, 13, 14, 22, 27

  • 21, 23 and 24

  • C6 to the airport

  • Turibús

  • Shuttle to Santa Bárbara Castle

The Turibús service will be suspended for the duration of the event, and the castle shuttle will only operate between Plaza del Dr. Gómez Ulla and the fortress.

Lines normally running along Avenida de Villajoyosa will be diverted via:

  • Avenida de Denia

  • Vázquez de Mella

  • Jaime II

  • San Vicente

  • Plaza de España

Plaza de España will serve as the main terminus and arrival point for many affected routes.

To avoid the city centre and seafront during the race, the following alternatives are recommended:

Outer Rings

  • Gran Vía

  • Avenida de Denia

  • Avenida de Orihuela

  • Vía Parque

Recommended Access

  • From the north: Avenida de Denia – Vázquez de Mella – Jaime II

  • From the south: Avenida de Elche (open only until the first runners arrive) and afterwards Gran Vía Sur

  • Crossing the city west–east: Alcalde Lorenzo Carbonell – Catedrático Soler (depending on temporary closures)

Streets to Avoid

  • Rambla

  • Alfonso el Sabio

  • Explanada

  • Maisonnave–Federico Soto

  • Seafront promenade

  • Port area and Zona Volvo

🕒 Duration of the Traffic Operation

The traffic management plan will remain in effect until the race ends and all temporary structures are removed. Normal traffic is expected to resume around 3:00 pm.
