San Roque Festivities

The San Roque Festivities, held during the second week of August, take place in one of Alicante’s oldest neighbourhoods, located on the slopes of Mount Benacantil, under the protection of the Castle of Santa Bárbara.

The festivities begin with a lively parade and traditional dances in the Plaza del Puente, followed by the opening speech that officially inaugurates these celebrations, which have roots dating back to 1559.

Activities include a paella competition in Calle Balseta, parades with brass bands and the fun tradition of ‘La banyà’. The festivities culminate with a mass and procession in honour of the saint, after which locals and visitors enjoy a shared dinner and a lively verbena in the Plaza del Puente.
