Kara Walker in the Michael Jenkins Collection and Javier Romero at MACA.
The temporary exhibition will be a journey through his career over the last three decades and will be the largest presentation of his work in Spain to date. Walker’s work today is necessary and essential, and so evocative: strong, forceful, hard and, at the same time, of great beauty.
Kara Walker is one of the most outstanding artists of her generation and one of the most interesting on the international art scene, with a complex oeuvre that analyses, in sometimes chaotic scenes, questions of race, identity, power and desire, always used as systems of oppression and subjugation, across centuries and continents.
The exhibition is made possible by the extensive representation of Kara Walker’s work in the MACA’s Michael Jenkins and Javier Romero Collection and a series of pieces brought in from New York. It is curated by Rosa Mª Castells and produced by the MACA.
