Film Series ‘Black Cinema: Audiovisual Resonances from Africa and the Diaspora’
The Museum of Contemporary Art of Alicante (MACA) presents the film series Black Cinema: Audiovisual Resonances from Africa and the Diaspora, a cinematic programme inspired by the work of American artist Kara Walker and the exhibition Burning Village, which attracted over 44,000 visitors in Alicante.
Curated by Beatriz Leal, a researcher specialising in contemporary African art and cinema, the cycle brings together five fiction films by pioneering African and African-American filmmakers whose works engage with the themes, forms and poetic strength of Kara Walker’s creative universe. Each screening will include an introduction and discussion led by the curator.
Every session offers a personal reflection on identity, memory and the legacies of colonialism through audiovisual creativity.
