9th Alicante International Classical Theatre Festival (FITCA)

Programme

The plays that can be enjoyed at the 9th Alicante International Classical Theatre Festival in September are:

Day 10: ‘The Odyssey according to Penelope’. A free adaptation by Francisco Sanguino of Homer’s text to be performed by the Aula de Teatro de la Universidad de Alicante.

Day 12: ‘The Two Noblemen of Verona’. One of William Shakespeare’s first comedies that explores the relationship between friendship and love. Directed by Declan Donnellan.

Day 13 ‘Numancia’. Play by Miguel de Cervantes. A major production directed by José Luis Alonso de Santos with 24 actors on stage and co-produced by the Community of Madrid.

Day 14 ‘Farra’. Comedy with music, dance and acrobatics. By the company Lucas Escobedo. Max 2025 Award for Best Musical.

17th. ‘Iconos o la exploración del destino’ (Icons or the exploration of destiny). Rafael Álvarez ‘El Brujo’ performs a show that revolves around the oral tradition of the mythological tales on which the great Greek tragedies are built in a humorous way.

Day 18. ‘Guitón Onofre’. The lost rogue by Pepe Viyuela.

Day 19. ‘Cid’. Antonio Campos’ company stages the life of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar narrated by his brothers and with live music by La Musgaña.

20th. ‘La loca historia del Siglo de Oro’ (The Mad History of the Golden Age). A comedy that portrays a Spain full of light and shadow, narrating the adventures of a society guided by the designs of God and the Kings. From the company la escalera de Tijera.

Day 21 ‘La reina brava’. A satirical story by the company Las Niñas de Cádiz.

All of them will be performed at the Teatro Principal. Tickets are already on sale at the box office and on the theatre’s website.

Complementary activities

In addition to the theatrical performances, complementary activities will be held until 28 September at the Pozos de Garrigós and the Municipal Arts Centre, where oral narrations of classical theatre will be performed, and at the Casa Bardin, where on 17 September the talk ‘El pícaro perdido’ will be given by Pepe Viyuela. In addition, the MACA will host on 23 September the meeting ‘Brooklyn, Calderón and other improbable combinations’ with Daniel Alonso Piñero.

Likewise, Raquel López from Alicante is offering two performances for institutes of ‘La Calavera ofendida’ at the Centro Municipal de las Artes on the 22nd and 23rd of September at 11 am. Juan Gamba from Seville offers ‘Los caballeros del pez’ for adult audiences on Friday 26th at 20:00 at the Centro Municipal de las Artes and the following day ‘Más cuento que Calleja’ for family audiences at 18:00 at the Pozos de Garrigós. On Saturday 27th, the Agostense Fran Pintadera offers ‘Ascuas (siete cuentos viejos)’ for adult audiences at 8 p.m. and on Sunday 28th, ‘Calamitosis’ for family audiences at 12 p.m. in the Pozos de Garrigós.
