“De par en par” exhibition at the Fundación Mediterráneo
The history of Alicante, laid bare:
15th-century manuscripts. Historical maps. Gabriel Miró’s personal letters. Óscar Esplá’s notebooks. Jorge Juan’s scientific works. Eusebio Sempere’s drawings. The writings of Carlos Arniches and Azorín.
All of this exists.
All of this is in Alicante.
And until now, very few people had seen it.
For the first time, the Fundación Mediterráneo Archive is opening its doors wide to the general public. The exhibition is organised into four movements —like a symphony— that begin in the cosmos and descend to the Mediterranean: the history of human knowledge, the Enlightenment and its impact on science, Alicante’s identity forged between East and West, and finally an inner journey towards creativity and life’s purpose.
Along the way, visitors will encounter unique documents, historical objects, works of art and a geode that presides over one of the exhibition’s most striking spaces. This is not an archive neatly arranged on shelves: it is an interpretation of time, of the region and of the people who made Alicante what it is today.
This is not an exhibition of display cases. It is a journey.
