5 ESSENTIAL TIPS FOR ENJOYING THIS SEASON

Five recommendations for living life to the fullest this winter!

1. Urban trails under the winter sun

Alicante combines sea, beaches, green areas and mountains very close to the city centre, making it an ideal destination for those who enjoy hiking. Its trails allow you to discover the city at a leisurely pace, in contact with nature and with the mild Mediterranean climate as your ally.

Among the most popular routes are Cabo de la Huerta, Torres de la Huerta, El Campo–Tabarca, the walled citadel of Tabarca, Benacantil, Serra Grossa, La Ereta and La Marjal parks, El Tossal and Monte Orgegia.

2. The city dresses up for Carnival

Carnival is one of the most eagerly awaited celebrations for the people of Alicante. Music, costumes and a festive atmosphere fill the streets, especially during Ramblero Saturday Night, when the Rambla de Méndez Núñez becomes a huge party venue open to everyone.

In the days leading up to it, Dijous de Gras and Viernes de Pregón are celebrated, while the Burial of the Sardine and Domingo de Piñata bring the festivities to a close. In 2026, Carnival will take place in mid-February, and it is one of the most popular events after the Hogueras de San Juan.

4. Alicante, a cultural treasure beyond its beaches

Winter is the perfect time to discover Alicante’s cultural wealth. Its museums and exhibition spaces offer experiences that go far beyond the traditional image of sun and sea.

The MARQ stands out for its innovative approach to presenting archaeology, from prehistory to the contemporary age, alongside temporary exhibitions such as Dénia, Archaeology and Museum, available until April 2026.

The Ocean Race Museum looks back over more than 50 years of round-the-world sailing, with a focus on nautical technology and sustainability.

The MUBAG, in the Gravina Palace, presents a selection of 19th-century art and, until 3 May, is hosting the exhibition The Romantic Era, with nearly 300 pieces from the National Museum of Romanticism.

The Las Cigarreras Cultural Centre, a former tobacco factory converted into a space for contemporary creation, is currently hosting the 12th edition of PhotoAlicante (until 10 January 2026) and the audiovisual installation B-U-G-S (until 26 February).

5. Be sure to try the delicious rice dishes from Alicante.

Alicante cuisine reflects everything that surrounds it: the Mediterranean, the orchards and the mountains. Rice is its great emblem and, thanks to local products, it acquires its own character. Fresh fish and seafood, seasonal vegetables and game meat from the inland regions shape recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation.

The distinctive Alicante City of Rice label recognises restaurants that prepare this dish with particular skill, from creamy rice dishes to traditional arroces a banda or Alicante-style rice dishes.
