{"id":316027,"date":"2026-01-29T11:47:49","date_gmt":"2026-01-29T10:47:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/alicanteturismo.com\/events\/exhibition-a-vision-of-alicante-in-the-19th-century\/"},"modified":"2026-01-29T12:33:31","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T11:33:31","slug":"exhibition-a-vision-of-alicante-in-the-19th-century","status":"publish","type":"mec-events","link":"https:\/\/alicanteturismo.com\/en\/events\/exhibition-a-vision-of-alicante-in-the-19th-century\/","title":{"rendered":"Exhibition: A Vision of Alicante in the 19th Century"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"99\" data-end=\"348\">The <strong data-start=\"103\" data-end=\"136\">Municipal Archive of Alicante<\/strong> invites you to take a journey back in time with the exhibition <em data-start=\"200\" data-end=\"242\">A Vision of Alicante in the 19th Century<\/em>, a showcase that reveals what the city\u2019s main streets and squares looked like almost two centuries ago.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"350\" data-end=\"699\">The exhibition features <strong data-start=\"374\" data-end=\"425\">65 photographs, prints and historical documents<\/strong>, displayed both inside the Municipal Archive and in the windows of the building on Calle Labradores. Among the highlights is the <strong data-start=\"555\" data-end=\"597\">first panoramic photograph of Alicante<\/strong>, taken in 1858 by the renowned photographer <strong data-start=\"642\" data-end=\"658\">Jean Laurent<\/strong> and preserved by the National Library.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"701\" data-end=\"1008\">The collection includes unique scenes such as the old Paseo de la Reina (now Rambla M\u00e9ndez N\u00fa\u00f1ez), wine barrels in the Port ready for export, Avenida Doctor Gadea almost devoid of buildings, daily life in Plaza Gabriel Mir\u00f3 and La Monta\u00f1eta, as well as images of the Postiguet and Explanada bathing areas.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1010\" data-end=\"1293\">The exhibition also captures historical moments, such as <strong data-start=\"1067\" data-end=\"1102\">Queen Isabel II\u2019s visit in 1858<\/strong> for the inauguration of the Madrid\u2013Alicante railway line, during which the aforementioned panoramic photograph of the city\u2019s seafront with Santa B\u00e1rbara Castle in the background was taken.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1295\" data-end=\"1436\">A unique opportunity to explore Alicante\u2019s urban and social transformation through historical documents and images of great heritage value.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1438\" data-end=\"1556\">\ud83d\udccd <strong data-start=\"1441\" data-end=\"1493\">Municipal Archive of Alicante (9 Labradores Street)<\/strong><br data-start=\"1493\" data-end=\"1496\" \/>\ud83d\udcc5 <strong data-start=\"1499\" data-end=\"1533\">From 26 January until May 2026<\/strong><br data-start=\"1533\" data-end=\"1536\" \/>\ud83c\udf9f\ufe0f <strong data-start=\"1540\" data-end=\"1554\">Free entry<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Municipal Archive of Alicante invites you to take a journey back in time with the exhibition A Vision of Alicante in the 19th Century, a showcase that reveals what the city\u2019s main streets and squares looked like almost two centuries ago.
