Alicante opens the calendar of its traditional festivities with the celebration of the Porrate de San Ant\u00f3n<\/strong>, a festival with more than 150 years of history that fills the San Ant\u00f3n neighbourhood with activity and tradition from Friday 16 to Sunday 25 January 2026<\/strong>.
The main venues for the celebrations are the San Ant\u00f3n neighbourhood<\/strong> and the Alicante Bullring (Plaza de Toros)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Programme<\/h3>\n

Friday 16 January<\/strong>
\u2022 9.00 pm<\/strong> \u2013 Opening proclamation in the marquee located in the Patio de Sol<\/em> of the Alicante Bullring, delivered by the Councillor for Festivities, Cristina Cutanda<\/strong>. During the same event, the Adult and Child Ladies of San Ant\u00f3n will be officially proclaimed.<\/p>\n

Saturday 17 January<\/strong>
\u2022 7.30 pm<\/strong> \u2013 Procession of San Ant\u00f3n<\/strong>, with the Patron Saint carried on his throne, which will premiere new decorative skirts. During the route, a fireworks display will be set off in Plaza de La Pipa, followed by the traditional throwing of chickpeas.<\/p>\n

Sunday 18 January<\/strong>
\u2022 11:00 am<\/strong> \u2013 Traditional Descenso de Galeras<\/strong> along the Cuesta de la F\u00e1brica, featuring a high-speed downhill run of handcrafted wooden vehicles. The street will be decorated with paper bunting and enlivened by dol\u00e7ainers i tabaleters<\/strong> (traditional Valencian musicians).<\/p>\n

Friday 23 January<\/strong>
\u2022 7.00 pm<\/strong> \u2013 Fancy dress competition in the Patio de Sol<\/em>, followed by a parade through the neighbourhood.<\/p>\n

Saturday 24 January<\/strong>
\u2022 12.00 pm<\/strong> \u2013 Paella competition in Calle Sevilla.<\/p>\n

Sunday 25 January<\/strong>
\u2022 9.30 am<\/strong> \u2013 Mass at the Parish of La Misericordia.
\u2022 10.15 am<\/strong> \u2013 Transfer of the image of San Ant\u00f3n to the Alicante Bullring.
\u2022 10.30 am<\/strong> \u2013 Equestrian display.
\u2022 12.00 pm<\/strong> \u2013 Traditional blessing of animals<\/strong> and pet competition, bringing the Porrate de San Ant\u00f3n 2026 to a close.<\/p>\n

Traditional Festivities of Alicante<\/h4>\n

The Porrate de San Ant\u00f3n<\/strong> forms part of Alicante\u2019s Traditional Festivities<\/strong>, which have been officially classified as Festivities of Local Interest<\/strong> since 2022. The calendar of the Federation of Traditional Festivities<\/strong> for 2026 is as follows:<\/p>\n
